Everyone Is A Network…Hello Where are the days when you only had to choose between three TV networks every night? Gone! How about a choice between 60 networks? Those days are gone as well. OK, so how about a choice between 500 channels on your new Cable/Satellite/Phone set top box? Those days are gone as well. 2009, Planet Earth, the choice is unlimited! The choice now is not between networks or channels or websites, not even a choice between platforms. The choice we have to make today is between people, friends and colleagues because EVERYONE IS A NETWORK. In today’s Media Post article, Twitter Driving Traffic To Social, Entertainment Sites, Mark Walsh explains how entertainment web sites are benefitting from Twitter as well as on-line social networking destinations. “The findings on traffic from Twitter underscore the growing role social media properties are playing in sending traffic to other sites. Hitwise recently released data showing that Facebook is now referring more traffic than Google to certain sites including PerezHilton.com, CafeMom, Evite and, highlighting a degree of reciprocity, Twitter.” Because everyone is a network In a joint announcement with iTunes, CBS released an iPhone/iPod application the enables NCAA fans to watch live video and audio streaming of every game aired live between March 19 and April 6, including the NCAA Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final Four, and National Championship games. It will also provide exclusive game previews, team breakdowns and match-up comparisons. Because everyone is a network Last week I programmed my DVR to record the “Wild Card” episode of American Idol. Unfortunately, the episode ran 4 minutes longer and the recording stopped leaving my daughter, a huge fan of the show, without knowing who the last two finalists were. In matter of seconds we found the episode online. We were the network, NCAA fans are the network, everyone is a network. The opportunity is to reach them where they program to themselves, regardless of platform. Have a great weekend Daniel M. |
